What is the confirmed premiere date?

Iruma-kun: if Episode of Mafia is scheduled to premiere on NHK General in Japan on Monday, January 4, 2027 at 23:00 JST (UTC+09:00). The official October 27 announcement also confirms a twelve-episode run and introduces a new main visual. This is an exact first broadcast slot, rather than a month-only window.

The time is Japan Standard Time. Viewers elsewhere should convert that explicitly identified time zone for their location, rather than assume that 23:00 refers to their own local clock. More importantly, the NHK broadcast slot is not automatically an international streaming release time. A distributor may publish episodes on a different timetable even when a Japanese television premiere is known.

Is this the next season of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun?

No. This is an adaptation of the separate if Episode of Mafia spin-off manga. Its premise reimagines familiar characters in another world centered on a mafia organization. It should not be numbered as the next regular season of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, and its January date should not replace the schedule of a main-series season. The distinction affects both expectations and watch order. A familiar name or returning voice actor can create the impression that a spin-off directly continues the last television episode. Here, the official production describes a different setting and different circumstances. Connections are part of the appeal, but the new story's starting point is not simply the next day at the original school.

Our editorial recommendation is to approach it as a companion interpretation. Existing fans can look for how personalities and relationships have been rearranged. Newcomers should use this production's own introduction to understand its premise, rather than assume that every term or relationship carries exactly the same meaning from the parent series. That recommendation is a reading approach, not a claim that the producers have issued a mandatory viewing order.

What happens in the mafia spin-off?

Iruma is a kind boy raised in a slum where violence and crime are ordinary parts of life. He helps Sullivan, the gravely injured head of the Babil mafia organization, and that encounter changes his future. The official introduction positions his kindness within a dangerous criminal setting, making the contrast between the boy and his surroundings central to the premise. Akita Shoten's series listing describes the manga as a mafia action comedy. That label is useful because the suits, weapons and darker key art could otherwise suggest that the project abandons comedy entirely. At the same time, “comedy” should not be treated as a guarantee that every scene will have the same tone as the school series. The alternate setting changes the situations in which familiar qualities are expressed.

The central question for a first-time viewer is therefore less “Which school arc comes next?” and more “What happens when this compassionate protagonist encounters a different system of power?” That is our interpretation of the setup, not a synopsis of unannounced episodes. We are keeping later manga developments out of this release guide so readers can decide whether the premise interests them without learning the outcome.

Which Japanese cast members return?

The official cast page names Ayumu Murase as Iruma, Mitsuki Saiga as Opera, Daisuke Ono as Naberius Kalego, Ryohei Kimura as Asmodeus Alice, Ayaka Asai as Valac Clara and Saori Hayami as Ameri. These are Japanese voice credits. The material reviewed for this article does not establish an English dub cast or release date. Recognizing those voices may be one reason existing fans are interested, but casting continuity and story continuity are different matters. An actor can play another version of a character without making the production a chronological sequel. The title's “if” framing and the changed setting are more useful guides to that relationship than a cast list considered in isolation.

Who is making the anime?

Tatsunoko Production is credited with animation production. Keiichiro Kawaguchi directs, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handles series composition, Kenji Fujisaki designs the characters and Yayoi Sekimukai composes the music. The official credits identify NHK Enterprises in production and NHK in the production and copyright credit. The source manga is drawn by hiro者 from Osamu Nishi's original concept.

Those distinctions help separate the source from its adaptation. A manga creator credit does not identify the television animation studio, and a broadcaster is not necessarily the company animating the episodes. For readers comparing this project with the parent series, keeping the credited roles separate is more accurate than describing every participant simply as “the studio.” Related reading: Where to Watch Granite Waves: Ryuu, Free Pilot & Episodes.

What can be watched before the premiere?

The official production homepage includes this Vimeo-hosted teaser. It introduces the anime under its Japanese title, Mairimashita! Iruma-kun if Episode of Mafia. NHK’s video restricts playback on other websites. Use the official-site button below and select its MOVIE play button to watch the preview.

A promotional player is not a complete episode or a streaming-rights announcement. Availability of that preview can differ from the eventual licensing arrangements for the series. Readers who encounter reuploads should return to the official homepage to identify the production's own linked version.

Can I read the manga first?

Akita Shoten lists eleven collected volumes of the spin-off as of this update, with the latest listed volume released on October 7, 2026. Its catalogue credits hiro者 and Osamu Nishi and uses the full if Episode of Mafia title. Checking that subtitle is important when buying or borrowing: the main Iruma-kun manga and this spin-off are separate series.

No official anime adaptation endpoint has been announced in the sources checked. Eleven available manga volumes do not mean that twelve television episodes will adapt all eleven, and the episode count is not a chapter count. Readers who want to avoid possible spoilers can begin with the opening material or wait for the anime, rather than rely on an unsupported volume-to-episode conversion.

Existing fans do not need to replace their main-series reading list with the spin-off's sequence. Keep the two publication lines separate. That makes it easier to follow each story in its own order and to understand why a character can occupy a different role in the mafia version. The comparison is part of the attraction, but merging their events into one chronology would make a release guide less useful.

What the new main visual communicates

The official second key visual places Iruma in a white suit at the center of a group descending a purple staircase. The surrounding cast largely wears dark clothing. That contrast makes the small, smiling figure easy to find even before reading the title, while the shared direction of movement presents the characters as an organized group rather than a collection of separate portraits.

Our reading is that the composition sells two things at once: Iruma's recognizability and a different structure around him. The familiar smile remains, but suits, gloves and the staged descent frame the ensemble in terms of hierarchy and allegiance. That makes the image useful to returning fans without requiring a later plot reveal. It signals a change of setting through costume and arrangement, rather than asking the viewer to mistake this for an ordinary school-season visual.

Where to find the English manga

Kodansha publishes the spin-off in English as Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun: IruMafia Edition. The first-volume listing provides print and digital retailer options and records an August 19, 2025 release for both formats. The IruMafia Edition subtitle is the important identifier when searching alongside the much longer main-series catalogue.

For a first look, start with volume one rather than a current-volume synopsis: the latter can disclose how relationships or operations develop. Japanese and English collected editions also have separate publication schedules. Akita Shoten's eleven-volume count should therefore not be treated as a claim that eleven English volumes are available. Use the appropriate publisher's catalogue for the edition you plan to read.

Where will international viewers watch?

The confirmed viewing information is NHK General's Japanese premiere. The production notices reviewed here do not confirm a worldwide streaming platform, regional availability or a same-day dub. We will add those details when a rights holder announces them. Until then, a broadcaster name should not be replaced with an assumed subscription service.

For planning the wider season, use our January 2027 release guide and calendar. Readers looking for another crime-centered anime can also consult The Fable Season 2 guide. Its release information belongs to a separate series and should be checked independently.
