When is Akane-banashi Season 2 coming out?

Akane-banashi Season 2 begins in January 2027. The official anime announced the continuation on June 20, 2026. Its second-season introduction, published September 19, identifies the next storyline as the Zenza Training Arc and explains where Akane's professional journey goes next.

The confirmed window is a month, with the exact first broadcast day still to be established in the second-season information reviewed here. The official site's January promotion names TV Asahi's IMAnimation network and BS Asahi among the Japanese outlets. An older weekly slot should not be assigned to the continuation without its own dated schedule.

This is a returning television anime for the Winter 2027 season. You can compare its window with other returning and new productions in our January 2027 anime guide, which distinguishes exact dates from month-only announcements. What is the story of Akane-banashi?

The series follows Akane, a young woman drawn to rakugo through her father's performances. Rakugo is a storytelling art in which a performer creates characters and scenes through speech, gesture and changes in delivery. Its stage is spare, making the audience's attention and the storyteller's control essential to the effect.

Akane's father, Shinta Arakawa, loses his place in the profession after a devastating examination decision. His daughter's ambition grows from her belief in his art. VIZ's introduction presents her pursuit of the highest rank as both a personal challenge and an effort to demonstrate the value of the storytelling that inspired her.

That background gives the series an accessible competitive structure even for viewers unfamiliar with rakugo. The performances matter, but so do preparation, judgment and the gap between possessing ability and being recognized for it. The family motivation gives Akane's progress emotional stakes beyond winning an isolated contest. Related reading: Dandivine Release Date & Where to Watch: Japan Schedule, Cast and Story.

What happens in the Zenza Training Arc?

The official second-season introduction moves Akane beyond high school and into formal training within the Shiguma school. She begins her professional life under the name Akane Arakawa and enters Yasakatei, a traditional yose theater, where she must learn among established performers.

That setting changes the questions surrounding her ambition. Wanting to perform and being ready for the everyday obligations of a professional theater are different challenges. The new introduction places her inside that working environment, rather than simply extending the classroom phase of her life. For a spoiler-light viewing plan, those details are sufficient: a new stage of training, a professional name and a theater that puts her close to experienced storytellers. Specific performance outcomes and later manga developments are unnecessary to understand why this continuation is a meaningful next step.

Watch the official announcement video

The June 20 announcement includes an official video introducing the continuation. It documents the second-season announcement, rather than a complete episode preview or a final broadcast schedule. The promotional artwork above also carries the January 2027 window. The original announcement is preserved in the source list at the end of this article.

Who makes the anime?

The current official project credits list Ayumu Watanabe as director, Yuu Harima as assistant director and Michihiro Tsuchiya for series composition. Kii Tanaka handles character design and chief animation direction, with ZEXCS credited for animation production. Akio Izutsu provides the music, while Kikuhiko Hayashiya is credited for rakugo supervision.

Those roles help explain the range of work involved in adapting a performance-centered manga: animation, voice acting, music and specialist supervision all contribute to how a story told on a small stage becomes a television sequence. They are reference credits from the official project page, rather than a claim that every second-season production detail has been separately reannounced. The established Japanese voice cast includes Anna Nagase as Akane, Takuya Eguchi as Karashi Nerimaya, Rie Takahashi as Hikaru Koragi and Jun Fukuyama as Shinta. These names offer a starting point for recognizing the returning ensemble while leaving room for additional second-season casting updates.

Where can you watch the second season?

The Japanese television window is confirmed, but a complete international Season 2 service list and local upload timetable are not established by the sources reviewed. The official on-air page still contains the first season's April 2026 schedule and Japanese service listings, so those entries should be checked for their season label before being reused.

A separate February announcement introduced an official global YouTube initiative for the first season in North and Latin America. That arrangement describes the first-season release. It does not automatically establish the second season's countries, episode availability or language options.

If you are catching up now, check the season and territory shown by your provider. If you are planning January viewing, add the second season to your watchlist and wait for a service-specific timetable before setting an episode reminder. Where to begin with the manga

The original manga pairs Yuki Suenaga's story with Takamasa Moue's art and is published in English by VIZ. Starting from its opening volume introduces Akane's family motivation and the dramatic importance of the professional ranks before the new season's theater training begins.

Anime viewers can follow the simpler route of finishing the first season before starting the January continuation. For a different kind of skill-driven story coming soon afterward, our Medalist movie guide follows another young performer working with a mentor toward a demanding competitive goal.
