When does GROTESQQQUE release?

The GROTESQQQUE release date is November 6, 2026 in Japan. Aniplex announced the opening date with the film's key visual on July 5. The production's website and CloverWorks' film listing also display the November 6 date.

This is an original animated anthology, bringing three different stories together in one theatrical project. The cinema opening and the limited Netflix preview below are separate releases.

What arrives on Netflix on October 23?

The October 19 announcement confirms that 4649GIRL (夜露死駆★少女, Yoroshiku Shoujo) will receive a limited advance release on Netflix in Japan from October 23 through November 5. It identifies this as one segment from GROTESQQQUE, ahead of the complete film's theatrical launch.

The preview edition also includes a collaboration music video for METALVERSE's opening theme, “Shoot Shoot Shoot.” Sara Minami, who voices Stella, accompanies the announcement with a message about the segment.

The stated territory is Japan. The announcement does not confirm the full anthology on Netflix, a worldwide October 23 launch, or an exact streaming hour. Viewers elsewhere should wait for a distributor's announcement covering their region.

What are the three stories?

Aniplex's original project announcement identifies three distinct worlds. The current film website introduces them as:

  • ÆLIENS: an alien girl's encounter with life on Earth.
  • 4649GIRL: Stella enters the Queen of Butterfly game in GALs TOKYO, a city without morning.
  • Nocturne: vampires travel through a world after humanity's disappearance.

The Netflix advance screening covers the second story. The November cinema release brings the anthology together.

Who is making the film?

CloverWorks lists Atsushi Nishigori as director, screenwriter and original character concept creator. Nishigori directs the ÆLIENS and Nocturne segments; Takahiro Miura directs 4649GIRL, with character designs by tarou2.

The credited planning and production companies are JOEN and Aniplex, animation is by CloverWorks, and theatrical distribution is by ANIMEC. This is an original project rather than an announced new season of an existing television anime.

Where can you watch the complete movie?

The confirmed full-film release is in Japanese theaters. Consult the theater list linked by the production for participating cinemas. The announcements cited here do not establish an overseas opening date or a streaming release for the complete movie.
