When does Witch on the Holy Night release?

Witch on the Holy Night opens in Japanese theaters on November 20, 2026. The film adapts TYPE-MOON's visual novel and brings another major TYPE-MOON project to animation studio ufotable.

What is Witch on the Holy Night about?

Aoko Aozaki appears to be an ordinary high school student, but she is actually an apprentice Magician. She lives with Alice Kuonji while training to become a full-fledged Magician, and the arrival of Soujuurou Shizuki changes the balance of their lives. The official introduction frames the movie as the beginning of Aoko's story.

Who is making the movie?

The original work is credited to Kinoko Nasu and TYPE-MOON, with ufotable handling animation production and screenplay production. Masaru Takeuchi directs, Moe Tsuzuki serves as character designer, and Hikaru Kondo is chief director. Hideyuki Fukasawa composes the music.

Theme song

The final trailer confirmed supercell for the theme song “Yoru to Ao.” The main cast includes Haruka Tomatsu as Aoko Aozaki, Kana Hanazawa as Alice Kuonji and Yusuke Kobayashi as Soujuurou Shizuki.

Where to watch

The November 20 date is the Japanese theatrical release. The previously announced international theatrical rollout begins later, while a streaming date has not been confirmed. AniNextUp will keep theatrical and streaming availability separate so an international cinema announcement is not mistaken for an online release.
