The upcoming adaptation of Sumiko Arai's music-centered romance now has a precise Japanese premiere date, a new full promotional video and an expanded voice cast. Here is what the official announcements establish, and what viewers still need to know before January.

Release at a glance

Japanese premiere: January 8, 2027, at 11 p.m. JST on Nippon TV's Fura-Ani block. Studio: CloverWorks. International streaming: Crunchyroll has confirmed the series, but the exact regional schedule is pending.

When is the anime release date?

The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All premieres in Japan on Friday, January 8, 2027. The official anime website lists weekly broadcasts at 11 p.m. Japan Standard Time. This is a new level of precision compared with the earlier January 2027 premiere window announced in July.

A Japanese television debut is not necessarily an international streaming time. Crunchyroll has announced that it will carry the series, but the sources reviewed for this article do not confirm exact local release times or a complete list of territories. Those details should be checked closer to launch.

What is the anime about?

Aya Osawa is a high school student who loves rock music. She meets a stylish employee at a CD shop and becomes fascinated by their shared musical taste. The employee is Mitsuki Koga, Aya's quiet female classmate, though Aya does not initially recognize that connection.

The central drama comes from the contrast between Mitsuki's two environments: a reserved student at school and a more confident presence among records. Music provides a way for the characters to connect even when they struggle to express their feelings directly.

The first full promotional video, released in October, previews the characters' performances and the soundtrack. It is distinct from the earlier teaser released in July.

Who is in the cast?

Mariya Ise voices Mitsuki Koga and Akari Kito voices Aya Osawa. The October announcement added five Japanese voice actors: Kenjiro Tsuda as Joe, Tasuku Hatanaka as Megumu Narita, Yurina Amami as Chizuru, Fairouz Ai as Mao and Maiko Nomura as Kanna.

The reviewed announcements do not confirm an English-language dub cast. Japanese casting should not be presented as an international dub lineup.

Studio, director and music

Masashi Ishihama directs the series at CloverWorks. Rino Yamasaki handles series composition and Kanna Hirayama designs the characters. Kousuke Noma and Takayuki “Kojiro” Sasaki are credited with the music featured in the new PV.

The opening theme previously announced for the anime is “Breed” by Nirvana. Its inclusion fits a story whose relationship begins with a shared love of rock. Music is central to the characters' identity, rather than merely background atmosphere.

Where can fans watch it?

Nippon TV is the confirmed Japanese broadcaster. Crunchyroll has announced streaming plans for 2027. Exact international release hours, territory-by-territory availability and episode count remain unconfirmed in the sources reviewed here.

What information is still missing?

Future updates should focus on the precise simulcast schedule, possible dub announcements, episode count and new official promotional material. Any verified changes should be added to this guide instead of creating a second article about the same facts.
