When will the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime premiere?
The Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime has been moved to 2028, replacing the previously announced 2027 release window. Crunchyroll confirmed the revised year during its New York Comic Con 2026 announcements, alongside additional cast and staff. A specific premiere day or month has not been announced. Read Crunchyroll’s official update.
The new schedule is a delay of the release window, not a cancellation. The companies have not publicly given a definitive reason for the change. Claims about production trouble, a particular episode count or a precise 2028 launch date would therefore go beyond the confirmed information.
Which new voice actors have joined?
Mayumi Saco and Shinya Fukumatsu have joined the cast in roles that remain undisclosed. Saco voiced Tomoe in the original Ghost of Tsushima game, while Fukumatsu is known for voicing Bomb in One-Punch Man. Their participation does not establish which characters they will portray in the anime; in particular, Saco's casting should not be taken as confirmation that she will reprise Tomoe.
Who is making the anime?
Takanobu Mizuno, known for the Star Wars: Visions short “The Duel,” directs the series at animation studio Kamikaze Douga. Gen Urobuchi handles series composition and co-writes the script with Renji Oki. Takashi Okazaki is credited with character design.
Newly named staff include Keiji Inai on music, Yoshikazu Iwanami on sound direction, Yasumasa Koyama on sound effects and Gyousyou Suzuki on title calligraphy. The series is produced by HAYATE with Aniplex and PlayStation Productions, while Sony Music participates as music and soundtrack partner. These roles are distinct from the developer of the original game, Sucker Punch Productions.
Will Ghost of Tsushima: Legends stream on Crunchyroll?
Yes. The series remains announced as a Crunchyroll exclusive. The 2028 release window applies to the anime’s planned premiere, but the platform has not yet provided a complete country-by-country schedule or confirmed the exact release day. Fans should wait for a further streaming announcement before making plans around a specific date.
How does the anime connect to the game?
The anime draws on Legends, the cooperative multiplayer experience introduced to Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima in 2020. That mode emphasizes Japanese folklore, supernatural threats and cooperative combat, rather than simply retelling the main game’s historical storyline. The adaptation’s production team has described the project as a new animated interpretation of that setting.
Sony Music, Crunchyroll, Aniplex and PlayStation Productions first announced the anime project in January 2025. The original announcement targeted 2027, making the latest 2028 update a change to a previously public release plan. Read Sony Music’s original announcement.

As of October 12, 2026, the anime has a confirmed 2028 release year, studio, major creative staff, new cast members and streaming partner. An exact premiere date, episode count, full voice-role assignments and detailed international release times have not been published. AniNextUp will update this report when the production partners confirm further details.
