Cosmoship Yamato √2199 Anime Film Announced With Hideaki Anno Directing
Cosmoship Yamato √2199 (Root 2199) is officially in production as a feature-length theatrical anime, bringing Hideaki Anno and Yutaka Izubuchi together as directors and marking the first animation co-production between Production I.G and Khara.
What was announced for Cosmoship Yamato √2199?
On October 6, the 52nd anniversary of the original Space Battleship Yamato TV premiere, the production formally announced Cosmoship Yamato √2199 and unveiled its first teaser visual. The project is a new feature-length theatrical animation rather than a TV season.
Who is directing the new Yamato movie?
Hideaki Anno serves as planner, executive producer, director and design-works contributor. Yutaka Izubuchi also directs and handles design work. Mitsuhisa Ishikawa is credited with planning, while the original work is credited to Yoshinobu Nishizaki.
Which studios are making it?
Production I.G and Khara are jointly handling animation production. The official announcement describes this as the studios' first animation co-production, making the production partnership one of the most notable parts of the reveal.
When does Cosmoship Yamato √2199 release?
No release date or release window has been announced. The official site says further information will follow. There is also no confirmed international theatrical or streaming plan yet.
Is √2199 the same as Space Battleship Yamato 2199?
No. The title deliberately echoes Yamato 2199, but this is a newly announced theatrical project. Fans should not assume it is a conventional continuation of the existing remake line until the production provides story and continuity details.
What remains unconfirmed?
The production has not yet announced the voice cast, story synopsis, runtime, premiere date, international distributor or streaming service. AniNextUp will update this guide when those details are officially confirmed.
